The Cast

In no particular order

Oren is the body's principal driver and the leader of the Brass Menagerie. He's the one who usually speaks to the public. Oren is a cartoonist, a preacher, a DJ and the head of the Uncanny Valley council. Fnaire is Oren's beautiful wife. She is an avid insectivore, a dancer, and a cartoonist as well. Besides Oren, she's the one who spends the most time in the real world. Oren and Fnaire live in a castle near the southwest corner of the Valley. Fnaire is also a member of the council.
Firoz is Fnaire's son from her previous marriage to Raj Tiger. Firoz is energetic, curious, and if allowed to have his way, would eat pizza at every meal. Tim Peters, AKA ChAoS oTtEr is the manager of ROVR, Oren's radio station. He lives at the north end of the valley with his wife, Trixie and their two daughters. Tim is calm in the face of absolute chaos, hence his name. Tim is a member of the Valley council.
Trixie Peters, formerly Trixie Takanawa, is better known as Owlguin, a penguin/owl hybrid. She loves anything that mixes cute and creepy. Owlguin is married to Chaos and they have two children. Trixie has a split personality of her own, and occasionally transforms into Tor Fenuku, an undead lion pharaoh. Sandra 'Woofy' Piersen is a likeable dog who plays piano and loves children. She has served as nanny to all of the children but one, and is now looking after two baby boys in another system.
Michael Sixeagles is an American Indian rat. He's rather like a vulcan, and in fact has the specific purpose of blocking emotions when they become too much to bear. Michael is a member of the council. Savvat serves as the local law enforcement. He is HUGE and as strong as an ox. And by 'ox', we mean Babe, the blue ox. Savvat is also a pain management alter, as he feels pain much less than the others. Savvat is on the Valley council.
Ping is the leader of the 7 Joyful Automatons, the local band. He also represents them on the council. Ping is an 'agent', an expression of the metaconscious. He is almost purely musical ability. Ping is married to Nemba, the lizard. Ping is covered down the front with a vibraphone and has additional bells hidden throughout his body. Blonk isn't known for being very active. He enjoys lying in the sun and soaking up solar power. Like all the automatons, Blonk is an agent, and is nearly pure musical ability. Blonk's mouth contains a bassoon and several other horns.
Innocent and childlike, Lang is slightly thick. Once, when asked his favorite season, Lang replied 'water'. Nevertheless, as an agent who is almost pure musical ability, Lang is a genius when it comes to producing music as a viola. Nemba may be the most balanced of the automatons. She is quiet and reserved, and consequently doesn't know much about Earth culture. Nemba is married to Ping, with whom she has constructed a daughter. She is a slap bass, and excels at being such.
His own favorite artist, Tesh is well aware of his own awesomeness and will tell you all about it at the first opportunity. Tesh converts into a self-playing drumset with all the extras, including cow bell, clapper, and even sleigh bells. Slightly grumpy but always lovable, Wom the pipe organ loves nothing better than to play a tune on his pipes, unless it's jamming with other artists.
having a flute for a beak, Oot cannot speak any louder than a whisper. This suite him fine. He's very happy just to fly about and tweet out flute music all day. Oot and the rest of the automatons live on their starship, the A7, just south of the junkyard on the west side. Cyril is a fusaron, a creature made of garbage. However, as his character developed, he grew more and more and eventually turned into a living reptile. Cyril is a mechanic and sculptor and helps to maintain the equipment at the hospital. Cyril lives in a cave just around the corner from the Peters and next to the junkyard in the northwest corner of the Valley.
B.A., also known as Soda Rat, is a glass blottle shaped like a rat. B.A. used to be a stinker. In fact, B.A. once stood for Bad Alter. B.A. since reformed, and now his name stands for Born Again. He is a very well respected member of the community and runs a soda shop just west of the lake. Phil first appeared in a dream. When the dream ended, Phil became self aware and clung tenaciously to life, remaining here long after the dream ended. Phil is a nurse, and has a unique power which allows him to see others as medical diagrams, instantly finding any health problems. He works as a nurse in the hospital and lives in an apartment on the hospital's top floor.
Dr. Francis Merideth Zimmerman, merideth to her friends, is a doctor of alter medicine and the head of the Valley hospital. She is also a member of the council. While normally all business, Merideth sometimes gets itchy to get out and socialize. Sunny is the first alter to be custom made. Oren knew an alter was forming, and so instructed the system to make him happy, bright and useful. Not only is Sunny bright intellectually, he is also bioluminescent. Sunny is the maintanance man... er, platypus, for the entire Valley.
Cox is a unique two-part alter. As a dryad, half of him is a tree, which mostly just sits there being a tree, and the other half is a humanoid who runs around naked. Fortunately, he has nothing to hide. Cox cares deeply about plants, to such a degree that he insists you throw seeds on the ground when you eat fruit, otherwise, you're cheating the tree. Kzzztk's actual name is completely unpronouncable and sounds rather like a conglomeration of Pokemon cries. Kzzztk is a genderless crystaline bat who serves as liazon to the System, the organic computer which operates Headspace and generates new alters. Kzzztk is an agent, meaning it is halfway between an alter and a bot.
Polo is a dog. Not a talking dog, not an anthro dog, just a dog. He's Firoz' beloved pet, and he is by far the most embarrassing when he takes control of the body. Fuzzy the teddy bear lives in and operates the toy store in the strip mall just south of the hospital. Fuzzy has a severe speech impediment. His mind cannot form complete sentences, which is a great source of frustration. Fuzzy is the best friend of Firoz, and also enjoys a special relationship with Savvat, who is sort of like a father to him.
Brick was once Oren's spirituality bot, who regarded himself as a 'god-shaped hole'. Brick's normal form is a sock horse, but when he is loved extra-specially, he turns into a gorgeous full-sized pegasus. Brick is the worship leader at the Valley church, where he lives. Anthony Wright is a phoenix who lives in the top of the apartment tree between the church and the Automatons' starship. He fancies himself a lawyer, and though he doesn't know much about real world law, he has been indispensible in keeping order in the Valley.
Eugene Lyon is an elderly gentleman who lives in a cottage at the north end of the valley with his two roommates, Leroy and Rashad. Eugene is the conductor of a train which runs beneath the ocean to Ellie's Island, where it can connect to other headspaces. A mischevious goat who loves to prank and scare baddies, Leroy, or Lunky as he likes to be called, forms half of Naisha Bison when he merges with his roommate, Rashad.
Once a plain human, Rashad didn't originally know that he was an alter. Upon discovering this, he fell into a deep depression. Later, he accepted his situation and demonstrated his willingness to live among a society of furry alters by changing his ears to fox ears. When merged with Lunky, Rashad becomes Naisha Bison, who is married to Eugene. Vent lives on the southern tip of a narrow peninsula. His sole purpose is to gather anger from the rest of the valley and release it in displays of savage rage. Understandably, Vent keeps away from people.
Ellie2 is an introject, a copy of another person. That person happened to be a multiple, which means that Ellie2 is able to become any member of the original Ellie's system. As Oren was severely mistreated by Ellie and her alters, Ellie2 has severe guilt issues and lives alone on a corner of Ellie's Island. Violet2 is an introject, a copy of a very special alter with whom Owlguin once had a very special friendship. Violet2 lives on Ellie's Island in a warm, tropical grassland.
River is in love with anything that burns gasoline. cars, bikes, boats, you name it, he loves it. River is also the Valley's only smoker, and when he's in the real world, must settle for bubble gum cigarettes. Tress Sixeagles, formerly Tress Mew, is a stress blocker. When other alters begin getting stressed out, Tress jumps in and blocks it. Tress is married to Michael Sixeagles and is the mother of Aroura. She lives in the apartment tree next to Woofy.
Bert is one of the quarters, so named because he came from a cruel, criminal alter who was forced to subdivide into four pieces. Bert has little empathy for others, but that is slowly changing. Bert lives in a small house on the west bank of the river. Another of the quarters, Ralph is a sociopathic liar. Fortunately, he is completely ineffective, as the other alters can read his mind. Ralph lives on the west bank of the river but operates a donut shop on the east side.
Another of the quarters, Tom is a control freak, and has gradually come to terms with the fact that he can't seize control of the Brass Menagerie. Tom doesn't yet have a job, since he won't settle for anything that doesn't involve bossing others around. He lives on the west bank of the river. The last of the quarters, ernie is a pervert. He claims to have reformed and wants to channel his interests into becoming a sexual therapist. At this point, however, he's not very well trusted.
Aroura is the daughter of Tress and Michael Sixeagles. Once deaf, she has been given normal hearing with the installment of bionic ears. Aroura loves to play with highly tactile materials such as clay, sand and putty. The daughter of Ping and Nemba, Vandy makes music via electric arcs. Vandy is highly analytical, but like any child, loves to play.
Samantha is the daughter of Chaos and Owlguin. She's a typical girl and likes things such as fashion dolls, unicorns and boys. Possibly split from Samantha, Violet appeared in a dream one night and remained after the dream was gone. Originally human, Violet was a nudist. Her adoptive father, Tim, insisted that she either wear clothes or fur, so she became a hippocampus, or mer-horse, turning into a pony while on land.
Lynette works as a lab technician in the Valley hospital and has designs on becoming the next Professor Hinkley, with ultimate expertise in every scientific discipline. Lynette is still a little bitter about being an alter and tends to take it out on Oren. Lynette is the leader of the 'Bolt's Girls', a clique which likes to go out to socialize in places the others wouldn't be caught dead in. Lynette lives on the north shore of Ellie's Island. Oren's female side finally came to life. The only trouble is that she's incredibly depressive. She is a member of the Bolt's Girls and usually instigates activities that get them into trouble. Oreana lives on the edge of the lake in Oren's old house.
Deedee is the last of the alters to appear. She is highly independent and doesn't associate with the others, perfering to remain alone in her jungle on Ellie's Island. The exception is when she goes out with the Bolt's Girls, usually doing something that ends them all in hot water. Oren's daughter, Amanda finally got her wish! Her father got married, his wife had a baby, and that baby was her. The only problem is that now she's not only an infant, but trapped within her dad's body.
Amanda's twin brother, Jason was a happy surprise to Oren and Fnaire!

The Bots

Bots are parts of the subconscious that think for themselves, which everyone has. However, most people's bots don't walk and talk. These are the known bots in the Uncanny Valley.
Libraria is a nightmare. She weaves dreams of fright and adventure, just scary enough to provide a thrill. Being able to talk with the alters has allowed her to refine and hone her storytelling skills. Libraria is able to behave like an alter, even taking control of the body on rare occasions. Reynaldo the fake is in charge of weaving sweet dreams. As with all the dreamweavers, Reynaldo can speak and is fully intelligent.
Slow Wave is the dreamweaver of deep sleep. Sadly, Slow Wave has no imagination. Slow Wave can speak, but is frightfully dull. Daydream the dragon is in charge of dreaming at the lightest levels of sleep, and sometimes when you just close your eyes. Daydream can speak, but usually chooses not to.
The Captain is the bot of navigation. He lives aboard his ship, the V2. The Captain is close friends with Fear, who also lives on the V2 and shares many of the same neural pathways. The Captain can speak, but says little. Fear is the fear response, those survival behaviors that kick in during times of extreme emergency. Fear is best friends with the Captain. She can also, when threatened, become a monster deer. Fear response cannot speak.
The Significator applies emotional significance to incoming data from the senses. It flies back and forth over the valley, always patroling for data to significate. The significator communicates only in terms of raw emotion. The Sphinx is a security program created to guard against external threats such as mentalism, psionics or spiritual manipulation. It therefore sits in the bay and looks outward, ever vigilant. The Sphinx may also act against corrupt alters, and is able to serve as a prison. The Sphinx does not speak.
The receptionist files things. Specifically, she (we think it's a she) files memories. She can be at the check-in desk in the hospital. Receptionist is fully capable of speech. Archivist can be found in the hospital basement, and is in charge of securing toxic memories, resulting in selective amnesia. Sometimes, archivist gets overzealous and secures memories which are only mildly stressful. Archivist can speak normally, but prefers to keep to himself.
Appetite decides what foods the Brass menagerie crave. Appetite is conversant, though very limited in his interests. He runs the cafe on the east bank of the river, between Breed's house and the bridge. Jukebox is the musical recall bot. He's the one who causes songs to get stuck in your head. Jukebox can speak, but usually chooses to play music instead.
Breed is the bot of sexuality, and decides when it is time for the alters to feel yiffy. Oren used to hate Breed. That was before Fnaire came into his life. The legal conscience is part of the internal police force. Its primary function is to ask the question 'Will I get in trouble for doing this?'
Another member of the internal police force, the moral conscience asks 'Is this right?' The final member of the police force, the social conscience asks 'Will people like me if I do this?'
The System in the bot which governs multiplicity. It generates alters, controls switching, even programs alters and agents. It also controls just about everything in the Uncanny Valley. The system cannot acknowledge itself, lest it cause a feedback loop, and therefore cannot speak. It communicates instead through an agent called Kzzztk, who ironically, also cannot speak.
